"...a journey through your internal picture book ... these are heart warrior training grounds - mental, emotional, spiritual and physical strength training for the creative spirit."
There are no words...We begin with the body. Just you and your body. We begin our exploration with breath, witnessing, imagination & movement. We let your body lead. We let it give an alternate voice to your spirit, to your heart and your emotions- your mind will try to keep up.
Everyday you have physical impulses that go ignored, emotional truths shoved to the side and thoughts dragging you by the collar. S.E.W.ing, you will listen, allow, release and follow them on an adventure into yourSelf; discovering where your imagination, creativity, spirit and true strength lives. This is mental, emotional, spiritual & physical fitness training for performers, for storytellers, for creatives, clown spirits, activists & Earth citizens - for ALL who are connecting with their heart warrior Self.
The story about SEWing Self Exploration Witnessing is a performance art practice developed by performance artist, Candace M. Younghans. Originally utilized to generate material for her performances, she began using it as a therapeutic practice in her personal life and then chose to practice it on stage as a performance form, an experience which gave her deeper insight as to its potential as a therapeutic tool for community.
She invited audiences into a personal process, gave them each a journal and a pen and asked them to be her witnesses and let her be their muse. She had to come up with a name for what she'd been practicing and developing... She decided upon, Self-Exploration Witnessing (SEWing), and called it The S.E.W.ing Show. It opened Fall 2009 and ran once a month for 6 months. (This Fall, 2018, will be the first time she's brought the show back, and this time the Self-Explorers will be the participants in the The Release Valve - A 'Liberation' Lab Series, the journals will be the originals.) Based in responding truthfully without words and [re]sensitizing one's self, the Self-Exploration Witnessing practice became a self-healing/liberation practice for Candace. She utilizes the practice as a tool for deeper communication with herself and her community. She guides others through the practice as a True Nature Advocate and Performance & Creative Communication Coach. Private sessions are 2 hrs long and are very tailored to each individual.
